Call for Artists: Design Keegan Ales O+LD Capital Can

O+ Festival and its longtime supporter Keegan Ales are CO+LLABORATING again! Artists and graphic designers are invited to submit can designs for O+LD Capital, a special O+ Festival edition of the brewery’s Old Capital beer (an American Blonde Ale).

Submissions for the O+LD Capital can design are open March 1-31. A panel will select three finalist designs, which will be displayed online (Facebook and Instagram) and at the brewery, 20 Saint James St. in Kingston, N.Y. The public will then be invited to vote for a favorite from the finalists. The winning design will be revealed at an O+ fundraising party at Keegan Ales on Sunday, April 17.

The O+LD Capital can will display the winning artist’s or graphic designer’s name, web site and social media handles. The winner will also be the featured artist in an exhibition at Keegan Ales in October.

The winner and two other finalists will receive two wellness visits each at an O+ Festival clinic in Chicago, Kingston, N.Y., or Petaluma, Calif. — whichever is geographically closer to the artist’s residence.

“Keegan Ales has been an enthusiastic supporter of O+ from Day 1,” says executive director Joe Concra. “O+ was actually launched over a few beers at the brewery by members of the creative and wellness communities.”

The brewery serves as a performance venue during the October festival and its walls have become canvases for O+ Festival artists. Keegan Ales currently features murals by lmnopi (2013), Jack Dishel and Vor 138 (2014) and Thorneater Comics (2015).

O+ and Keegan Ales have been supportive of each other, and that has grown into the festival taking over our entire facility for the weekend, turning our brewery into one of the premier O+ venues, and making it a drive-through mural museum as pieces are added every year,” says Keegan Ales founder Tommy Keegan. “It has been called, ‘A tattoo for your wall’ — a description that we like.”

Keegan Ales each year provides a special O+ Festival beer to be poured at venues throughout the October festival weekend in Kingston, N.Y. But this is the first time the brewery will feature a specially designed can selected via competition.

“Bringing all these creative minds together for such a great cause reinforces the belief that with a little hard work and a lot of conviction, we CAN all work together to do the right thing for ourselves, each other and our community — and have fun doing it,” Keegan says.

Use this template as your guide. Design must include the O+ logo as is. The Keegan Ales logo should also be incorporated in some way, but can be hand-drawn with some creative license worked into the art. Submit your design here now through March 31. Share your work-in-progress and final design by tagging #designoldcapital on Instagram and Twitter. Good luck!

Submissions are subject to minor changes to accommodate both federal and state liquor laws. The Keegan Ales team, O+ crew and winning artist will work together to make sure the final design passes all requirements. Every effort will be made to minimize any changes in order to stay true to the artist’s vision. Questions about the subm
