Carin Jean White with Marisa Caruso, Harry Murzyn, and Unicycle Productions

Carin Jean White is a theatre director and visual artist. Her work explores the intersections and porous boundaries between the roles of spectator and performer, while emphasizing how space can act both as an intermediary and active participant. At the height of the pandemic she collaborated with Spanish artists Itsaso Iribarren and Germán de la Riva on a site-specific, physically-distanced theatre piece, The Art of Walking, for Artpark in Western New York. Additional projects she is proud to have worked on include arranging and writing text for a location activated audio walk featuring Rhiannon Giddens and YoYo Ma (Artpark, Western NY), creative directing an immersive street-theatre festival for thousands (Artpark), resident directing the circus show EMPIRE on Broadway (Speigelworld), and devising site specific dance-theatre pieces for DUMBO (Brooklyn) and the Prague Quadrennial (Unicycle Productions). She has worked with Performance Workshop (Taiwan), Plasticien Volants (France), and Sundance Theatre Lab amongst others. She was co-artistic director of Excellent Creature Theatre Company (Garrison, NY). She holds an MFA in Theatre Directing from Columbia University.
