~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amanda Palmer is a best-selling author, feminist, songwriter, community leader, pianist and ukulele-enthusiast who simultaneously embraces and explodes traditional frameworks of music, theatre, and art. She is the co-founder of the punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls, and a profoundly successful solo act who graced the O+ stage back in 2017. In 2019 Palmer released There Will Be No Intermission, a masterwork album that explores the tentpole themes of life, death, and abortion. As brilliant as Palmer may be as an artist, her 2013 TED Talk The Art of Asking, about the dignity of giving what you can, and the grace of being able to give and care for each other, is punctuated by a prescriptive statement she makes near the end that’s a guidepost for us: “To give, and receive. But more important: To ask. Without shame.”
On August 13, 2022, Palmer returns to Kingston. It will not just be a concert in support of O+’s mission and in celebration of Amanda Palmer’s return to the U.S. post-pandemic. She will be joined by the amazing Holly Miranda, whose profoundly uplifting new single, Held Together (recorded at Woodstock’s Goat House Studio) bends R&B over a backbone of gospel. Miranda’s an astonishing artist: Her 2016 album of covers, Party Trick, had her ranging from Bon Iver’s Blood Bank to Alphaville’s Forever Young, and still somehow entirely inventing a new sound all her own.
Palmer will also be joined by Chris Wells, an actor, MC, and creator of The Secret City, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to fostering community through the arts and celebrating the work of individual artists.
Finally, the show will feature the incredible chamber pop piano-violin duo Gracie and Rachel. They recently released their sophomore album Hello Weakness, You Make Me Strong on Righteous Babe Records and are embarking on a summer tour and we are proud to have them join us in the sanctuary for this incredible night of music.
