IlluminatiO+n Showcases Kingston Murals Oct. 10

O+ is lighting up a number of murals painted throughout its decade-long festival history for one night only this Saturday, Oct. 10, from 6-10 p.m. in Kingston, N.Y.

The following murals are part of Saturday’s IlluminatiO+n:

Uptown: “Artemis Emerging from the Quarry” and “Matt” (back of BSP Kingston on Crown Street), “Bilancia” (73 Crown St.), “Know Thyself” (back of 35 North Front St. facing Schwenk Drive), “Pronkstilleven” (289 Fair St.)

Midtown: “Ain’t I A Woman?” (72 Franklin St.), “Años de Soledad” (721 Broadway), “Black Lives Matter” (695 Broadway), “Lifted” (795 Broadway), “Robin X” (59 Greenkill Ave.), “Secrets of the Wetlands” (37-39 Saint James St.), “Survivor Love Letter” (40 Thomas St.)

Rondout: “Their Survival Is Our Survival” (3 Dunn St.)

In addition, O+ will light a mural at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ulster County recently made by Jalani Lion in memory of Chris Bamba. Plus, O+ has commissioned alumnus Vince Ballentine and high school student Tafari The Artist to paint a mural at 94 Furnace St. this week. That mural will also be illuminated Saturday.

Murals, Music and Meditations

O+ alumni musicians and Kingston-area meditation practitioners have provided songs and mindfulness practices to experience 10 O+ murals in a whole new way. There is music and/or meditation to complement: Bilancia, Know Thyself, Ain’t I a Woman, Años de Soledad, Black Lives Matter, Lifted, Robin X, Secrets of the Wetlands, Survivor Love Letter and Their Survival Is Our Survival.

Those standing in front of a mural will see a QR code to scan and a website address to access the new content.
